"What is Doctor Who?"

Now, you may be asking yourself, "What on Earth is 'Doctor Who?'" (but the chances are that you do know what it is... but maybe you don't, whichever) and I'm going to tell you what it is!

Doctor Who is a British sci-fi television program that first aired in in the 60's (1963 to be precise) and ended in 1989. In 2005 it returned to our screens starring Christopher Eccleston as the famous Doctor with Billie Piper playing his assistant/companion. The resurrection of the show introduced sci-fi to a whole new generation of children. So far, the show has been going strong.

The Doctor is the main character of the television show, and is a 900 (roughly) year old Time Lord from the planet Gallifrey, which (after the 16 year gap) has been destroyed in the Last Great Time War, a battle between the Time Lords and Daleks. Time Lords have the ability to 'regenerate' which means that when they are nearly dead, their bodies heal themselves and create a new body, making them have several lives. This also means that several different actors have played the Doctor. So far, we know 11 different actors that play the Doctor, which are follows:

  • William Hartnell
  • Patrick Troughton
  • Jonn Pertwee
  • Tom Baker
  • Peter Davidson
  • Colin Baker
  • Sylvester McCoy
  • Paul McGann
  • Christopher Eccleston
  • David Tennant
  • Matt Smith
The Doctor is known to travel round in his TARDIS (which stands for Time And Relative Dimension In Space) with a Companion or two (always a woman, or a woman with a man, there has been no only male companions... yet...) and has lots of different adventures, which normally end us fighting for the survival of the Human race against an Alien threat! Some recurring enemies have included, the Daleks, the Cybermen, the Sontarans and so on.

The show is incredibly popular and is one of the most successful sci-fi programs ever made.

I absolutely LOVE it!!!

Peace and Run!
